Nigella Seed 250g

These seeds have little aroma, but when rubbed in the fingers, they give off a peppery smell- they are sometimes used as a substitute for pepper. Additionally, they have a herb-like taste, similar to oregano or carrots. Nigella is one of the five spices in Bengali five spices. It is widely used in Indian cooking – where it is known as “kalonji” – in dhall and vegetables dishes, pickles and chutneys. The seeds are often sprinkled on naan bread, to which they give a distinctive, peppery flavour. In Middle Eastern kitchens, the seed are often sprinkled over breads and cakes, and are sometimes mixed with sesame seds for the same purpose. The seeds are sometimes called black cumin, although they are a different spice.
